The Rector of the Water Institute, Dr. Adam Karia, has stated that the institute continues to contribute to the national economy by producing highly skilled professionals in the water sector, supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6, which focuses on access to clean and safe water.

Speaking at the 4th International Scientific Water Conference held at Mlimani City, Dar es Salaam, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, Dr. Karia highlighted that the institute has successfully developed various technologies, including water ATM machines, which are already in use.

He noted that the directive issued by the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Philip Isdor Mpango, who officiated the conference, to ensure that these machines reach rural communities, has been received positively. Efforts are ongoing to simplify access to clean water in these areas.

Additionally, Dr. Karia spoke about the Integrated Leakage Management System (ILMS), an innovation developed by students and lecturers at the Water Institute. He stated that the system has significantly reduced Non-Revenue Water (NRW), preventing financial losses caused by water leakage. Currently, the system is being used in regions such as Dodoma, Tanga, and Igunga-Tabora and has demonstrated great success in Zanzibar.

He also mentioned that the President of Zanzibar, H.E. Dr. Hussein Mwinyi, has directed the full implementation of the system across Pemba Island and all regions of Unguja.

The conference, officiated by Vice President H.E. Dr. Philip Isdor Mpango, commenced on January 29, 2025, and is scheduled to conclude on January 31, 2025.
